Sculptra® works subtly and gradually over time, by stimulating the body to create its own new collagen, for a more youthful-looking, natural increase in volume that lasts for up to two years and in some cases, longer. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra® helps stimulate the skin’s own natural collagen production, starting at week six and showing continuing improvements up to month six, to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging. For this reason is is known to be a celebrity favorite.

Fat and bone loss occurs naturally as we age, starting as early as age 30, no matter how much we diet and exercise. The fat and bone loss around the eyes, forehead and cheeks cause men and women to look much older and more tied than their actual years. Sculptra® not only fills and lifts deflated and sunken areas on the face, but actually helps fill these “deflated” areas as it tightens and reflects more light, resulting in a brightening effect. Your face’s aging process actually begins to reverse over the next few weeks to six months, occurring gradually and naturally. Because of its slow and transformative effect on the entire face, it has often been referred to as the “liquid facelift.” The results are quite dramatic.
Sculptra® is not for deep correction, but rather used to lift the face, fill in hollow temples, redefine a jaw line and raise the eyebrows in the most natural way. Because of its slower acting nature, treatments are completed in a series of three or four visits, spaced six weeks apart. Studies show that the results from Sculptra® last at least two years, however, the collagen produced can last severn years or longer. Touch up treatments are required after two to three years due to the natural aging process.
Sculptra® is a poly-L-lactic acid, a string of lactic acid molecules which occurs naturally in the body. It was approved in 2009 by the FDA for purely cosmetic purposes. Sculptra® is not advised as a first facial treatment. Common reactions have included swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, itching, discoloration at the injection site but side effects resolve one to fourteen days post-treatment. Also, if anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin or alcohol are consumed, there could be some bleeding or increased bruising at injection site.
